National Center for Global Health and Medicine and Hanoi Medical University (Vietnam) sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration through joint clinical research
On June 12, 2024, the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM) in Tokyo, Japan, and Hanoi Medical University (HMU) in Hanoi, Vietnam signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration between two institutions, with a primary focus on joint clinical research.
Dr. Koji Wada, Director of the Department of International Trials, joined as the representative of NCGM President Norihiro Kokudo. With the period from 2024 to 2029, the agreement will include faculty exchanges, joint conferences, sharing information and materials, development of research programs, and other cooperative activities.
During the meeting, NCGM and HMU discussed on potential cooperation opportunities in the field of clinical trials. HMU has collaborated with the Japanese pharmaceutical company to conduct clinical trials for COVID-19. Both institutions recognized the critical importance of enhancing the capabilities in the response of emergency situations by developing treatment and preventive measures. NCGM also toured Hanoi Medical University Hospital and the Center of Clinical Pharmacology to have valuable insights into the burden of infectious diseases at the hospital and showcased HMU's capacity and infrastructure for conducting clinical trials.

HMU background:
Established in 1902, Hanoi Medical University (HMU) is one of Vietnam's oldest universities. With over a century of history and continuous development, HMU has cemented its position as the leading medical university in Vietnam. HMU boasts an impressive academic infrastructure encompassing: 1 university hospital, 1 university branch in the central region of Vietnam, 3 faculties, 43 departments, 2 schools, and over 2,300 staff members. Currently, the university fosters collaborations with 97 hospitals and thousands of visiting lecturers. Regarding the field of clinical trials, the Center of Clinical Pharmacology at HMU has over a decade of experience in conducting drug trials, vaccine development, and bioequivalence studies. Notably, their contributions include the involvement in vaccine trials from the Japanese pharmaceutical company and a successfully completion of a PMDA Good Clinical Practice (GCP) inspection.
